High School Showcases Student, Alumni Art

Featuring music, jewelry, graphic arts, hula-hoops and drawing, the "Art Happening" celebrated a variety of artistic expressions.

Commack High School students showed off their creations at the school's "Art Happening" event on Monday night.

The show, which was held in the entryway of the school, featured live music, painting and drawing, graphic art demonstrations, jewelry, hula-hoops and much more. Handmade ceramic mugs were sold at the event, and all the proceeds raised went directly to the David Zoller Art Scholarship Fund.

Among the jewelry, graphic arts displays and interactive painting and drawing areas were tables selling refreshments. More than a dozen displays of student artwork stretched down the hallway for guests to gaze upon.

The student musical duo Bass Face, which features Dan Costello and Paul Katz, performed live for the crowd that gathered. Behind them in the glass display area of the hallway students modeled outfits created by their peers.

The event was spearheaded by a faculty member who wanted to provide students the opportunity to showcase their work.

"Our head of the art department, Rob Raeihle, had this vision that you see tonight," said Alli Razzano an art teacher at the school. "We have very talented students here, and it's wonderful to see them express themselves like this."
