Suffolk Libraries Launch New Website

A website accessible by all Suffolk patrons will offer tutoring help, book reservation services and free e-Books.

Suffolk Libraries integrated the Live-brary.com platform with their websites on Tuesday, allowing  patrons to access library materials from their own homes.

"It's a cooperative project of the public libraries of Suffolk County and I believe it will be a great success for our library patrons.  It's a great place to access online resources and extends our walls beyond the physical building," said Commack Public Library Director Laurie Pastore.

Assistant Director for the Smithtown Special Library District Sue McManus said the website will help patrons access tutoring service from home and also download e-Books directly to their e-Readers.

The website will allow users to search for careers, jobs, view a reading list and even learn a foreign language via mango language services. It also offers music, movies and audiobook downloads.

Research support and tutoring services are also available via live chat, which both directors said will be beneficial to students as the school year continues.

From 3 p.m. - 9 p.m. on Tuesday, virtual ribbon cutting ceremonies will be taking place around the county. Commack residents can join in the ceremonies at the Commack Public Library or a branch of the Smithtown Special Library District.

The Commack Public Library will have a slideshow presentation demonstrating the new site beginning at 3 p.m. and will also have some giveaways and other goodies to commemorate the occasion. Librarians will be available to give one-on-one information sessions about the site with any patrons interested in learning.
