Yogurt Crazy Thrives in Commack

Commack's newest yogurt shop has turned into a popular hangout in its first season.

It’s been two months since next to on Jericho Turnpike, and business is booming.

Since Yogurt Crazy’s debut in late June, the Emilio’s Shopping Center has quickly attained the status of Commack’s new social hub. Yogurt enthusiasts of all ages spill out of the store and into the parking lot late every evening – weekdays and weekends alike.

Patch caught up with Brendan Hackett, who co-owns the self-serve yogurt chain with his aunt and uncle, for his take on Yogurt Crazy’s first summer in Commack.

Patch: How do you feel Yogurt Crazy’s Commack location is performing?
Brendan Hackett: I think we’ve had a great response from the community. Everyone has been very welcoming and excited to have us there. We couldn't have asked for much more at this point.

Patch: Who visits your new store the most?
BH: We've served quite a few customers so far, and it’s really been a broad range of people. We see a ton of kids come to the store, but I can’t say that it’s been strongly one demographic over another. We really see people of all ages.

Patch: What seem to be the most popular yogurt flavors and toppings at this location?
BH: We have a lot of fun flavors, but vanilla, chocolate and cake batter will always be our big sellers.

Patch: Have there been any surprises or interesting observations from operating the Commack store as compared to your other stores [in Huntington and Woodbury]?
BH: By the time we opened this location, we really had a lot figured out about operating a store like this. The biggest surprise to us has been how well the people we employed are working together. They’re just a very good group of hardworking kids and I think their attitudes have made a huge difference for us.

Patch: When and where are your next stores opening?
BH: We’ll be opening another Yogurt Crazy in Northport in about two months. From there we’ll just have to see!
