A new 7-Eleven store is coming to the corner of Veterans Memorial Highway and Harned Road in Commack.

The Smithtown Town Board unanimously approved the site plan application Aug. 15.

The plan includes to demolition of an existing 1,708-square-foot filling station and the construction of the proposed 2,250-square-foot retail building.

There are three other 7-Eleven stores in town, including two on Jericho Turnpike and one on Veteran's Memorial Highway, about a mile from where the new one will be.

Construction is already underway at the site.

Hey, Jennifer, don't forget that this is Commack. Everything done here is in excess - 11 or 12 pizza places, 2 Home Depots, 2 Targets, Dunkin Donuts everywhere you look, 3-4 Mexican restaurants. Need I go on?

Wow, all the things we don't have - like a decent selection of fast and other affordable food, and all we get is yet another 7-11 to avoid.

Wish luck and success to the new 7-11. Any biz that will have long staying power and help with paying taxes is welcome. What are you ppl bitching about. If any of you have better biz ideas, plunk down half a mil or more and invest in Commack!

Demolition is not construction! They took down the building, ripped up the asphalt and took down two trees (Town trees?!). One reason why this 7-eleven will do well is that it's on the west bound side of Vets Hwy; so it'll get tons of morning business. Dunkin Donuts will definitely feel the competition. Town safety should look into controlling the parking of personal vehicles, commercial trucks, and even school busses parking on Vets Hwy when patronizing Dunkin Donuts, a real safety issue!

@ Dan: Public Safety has no time to waste on parking and safety issues at Dunkin Donuts. All their time is being devoted to staking out sumps for the "pot growers" in Commack and Smithtown.
