Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza Opens Wednesday

Commack's newest restaurant is at the intersection of Town Line Road and Jericho Turnpike.

Commack is about to get a little hotter as Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza opens Wednesday.

The pizzeria is located within the Peppertree Commons Shopping Center, near the intersection of Jericho Turnpike and Town Line Road.

Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza is best known for its method of using a 800-degree anthracite coal-burning oven to bake its well-done pizzas and other menu items, including coal-oven-roasted chicken wings with caramelized onions, pork ribs with vinegar peppers, home-style meatballs made from a family recipe and Eggplant Marino, which is named for Dan Marino.

Long Island native Anthony Bruno, founded the chain which is based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The Commack site, which was formerly occupied by Big City deli and Turnbury Lady clothing retailer, is Bruno's fourth Long Island location. The others are located in Carle Place, Woodbury and Wantagh. The Wantagh restaurant opened Jan. 15.

The company recently donated more than $8,000 from its Wantagh opening to Island Harvest’s Hurricane Sandy Relief efforts.

Bruno said he plans to open three more locations on Long Island within the next year. He has his sites set on Bohemia, Great Neck and Greenvale, he said in a statement.

“I’m proud of the success we’ve experienced on Long Island and look forward to bringing our award-winning pizza and Italian soul food to our friends and family in Commack,” he said.

In addition to a wide beer and wine selection, the Commack location will also feature a full-liquor bar.
