Bites Nearby: Bagel Chalet Is More Than Just Bagels

From flagels, to customizable salads, and gourmet paninis - you will never leave the Bagel Chalet hungry.

The is a landmark in Commack that has graced the Macy’s shopping center for 22 plus years – and it’s still going strong.

There has never been a time in my life where I thought, “what a shame, the Bagel Chalet used to be so good,” or “eh, that lunch was mediocre at best.”  And no, I’m not just saying that because both the Bagel Chalet and myself happen to be the same age.

The Bagel Chalet is so much more than just a bagel shop.

They have the traditional assortment of bagels, flagels, and bialys with every flavor of cream cheese that you could ever desire – including specials like Jalapeno and Vanilla Walnut Raisin - as well as perfectly grilled omelets and crispy bacon for those hearty breakfast lovers out there.  It’s also worth a mention that they have one of the largest healthy bagel assortments around as well - with a variety of whole wheat combinations, multi-grain raisin, low-carb everything and sesame.

As an alternative to a traditional cream cheese spread for your bagel, I recommend the Cranberry Walnut Chicken Salad that I crave periodically whenever I’m in the mood for a twist on the classics.  And the best part – if I order this salad on a bagel, I usually have enough food to last me two meals!

If you’re in the mood for a healthier lunchtime fare, the Bagel Chalet offers a customizable salad bar with every topping under the sun including: avocado, pineapple, sunflower seeds, sliced almonds, goat and feta cheese, and bacon bits – to name a few.

The Bagel Chalet also has something truly spectacular and unique that cannot be found anywhere else in Commack – gourmet paninis.

If you’re thinking that paninis are nothing special other than flattened bread with a single slice of some random meat product inserted between the slices, then you clearly have never experienced the magic that is a Bagel Chalet panini.

These scrumptious morsels perched inside their glass case are almost guaranteed to compel you to purchase one as you pass by them on line. Take the French Kiss Panini, for example. It’s piled high with black forest ham and honey turkey, delicately draped in bleu cheese, smothered in a bit of honey dijon mustard, and ceremoniously topped with sliced apples – all between a buttery flaky croissant. I dare you to look at this sumptuous sandwich and not drool even a little.

Note: If you decide to dine-in at the Bagel Chalet, beware of the vibrating booth.

No, it’s not haunted by some undead baker or poltergeist. And it is not directly above a tiny yet very active fault line. It actually just vibrates because it is right next to the beverage cooler – so it’s the first booth on your right when you leave the cashier, just in case you start trying to avoid it as well. If you’ve ever sat there you will know that a jiggling table gets very annoying quite quickly.
