Boxing Gym Opens in Commack

Grand Opening for LA Boxing, Commack, on Jericho Turnpike took place on Saturday with food, free massages from Hand and Stone massage and demonstrations.

The Commack franchise of LA Boxing, owned by Scott and Nicole Wafer, opened on Jericho Tpke on Saturday. The grand opening included a day of boxing demonstrations, class sign-ups and free food.

The boxing gym features classes in Kickboxing, Boxing and MMA – mixed-martial arts. The gym also features a basement weight room and a professional private ring. Classes, Wafer said, run twice a day, seven days a week and there are plans to add more classes as membership grows.

"We chose the building, that's how we ended up in the area. I'm originally from Commack and now live in Smithtown. My wife and I own the gym. The building was custom-built as a boxing gym. It's a stand-alone building on Jericho Tpke with it's own parking lot, it's really a great location. If we're not in your town, we will be. We have plans for four more gyms," Wafer said.

"Scott is a good friend of mine. I play sports in college, it will help with endurance and weight training," Aloe said.

Kristine Kelly, of East Northport, and Danielle Alvarez, of Dix Hills, also attended the class.

"It was a great class. It's a central location," Kelly said.

"I've done kickboxing before, but this was a great class. I plan on taking more classes," Alvarez said.

Michele Fiore of Lindenhurst plans to come to the Commack location as much as possible for the unique concept. Fiore is also a friend of the Wafers.

Wafer said the location is great because of their target age group – women 25-35, with children.

The gym has classes for men, women and teens that run all week. Check out their website for more information.
