Commack to Welcome Moe’s Southwest Grill

Offbeat Tex-Mex chain will open its first Suffolk County location in early 2012.

On the heels of the announcement that in Commack comes another revelation for lovers of upscale fast food: Commack will soon be home to a Moe’s Southwest Grill.

According to Brian Berkery of Creative Vibe Advertising, the local ad agency for Moe’s, the funky chain serving up casual southwest fare will open its doors in Commack at the beginning of next year. It will be located in a long-unoccupied space in the Target Shopping Center on Veterans Memorial Highway and will employ approximately 15 people.

“We’d been looking for a new location close to the Nassau/Suffolk border and finally found a great one in Commack, where the demographics fit our concept perfectly,” said Berkery.

Berkery feels that Moe’s will provide a breath of fresh air for the shopping center, which last fall lost its only true eatery when suddenly. “There’s currently
no other food in that center and we love having , and as anchor tenants,” he said.

Known for its friendly burristos (counter staff) who greet each and every visitor with a resounding “Welcome to Moe’s,” the franchise offers made-to-order Tex-Mex staples including burritos, tacos, quesadillas, fajitas and nachos, all of which are complemented by free chips and salsa. Many menu item names are named based on pop culture references—for example, the “Art Vandalay” burrito and the “Close Talker” salad both pay homage to episodes of Seinfeld.

There are currently more than 420 Moe’s restaurants nationwide, including five on Long Island. The Commack location will be Moe’s first venture into Suffolk County.
