Emily Sky Fashions Opening New Store for Teens

Construction is underway at the Peppertree Commons in Commack to bring Indie to life.

Emily Sky Fashions, a popular women’s clothing and accessories store at the Peppertree Commons in Commack, will soon be opening a store geared specifically for those ages 13 to 25.

The idea to open a store for a younger generation came about from Commack’s own shoppers, owner Laura Greenfield, said.

“We had so many requests from clients saying that’s there’s no where for their daughters to shop. They would constantly say, ‘Please open a store,’” Greenfield said.

Those wishes have been granted. Indie, the name of the new shop, is scheduled to open next door to Emily Sky in August.

Like it’s namesake, Indie, is all about empowering teens and young women to be themselves. The store’s slogan touts, “Be you, be true, be Indie,” emphasizing the belief in expressing one’s individuality and not just following the crowd.

“We put a big emphasis on being your own person and not going with the masses,” Greenfield said. “Emily Sky has always been about being yourself in a world that wants to make you like everyone else, and now we’re doing that for younger women.”

In addition to clothes, Indie will also sell shoes and accessories. To meet the needs of their younger clientele, the store also has a price cap.

Every item will be less than $100 in the store, Greenfield said.

“It’s quite affordable, but still trendy. Instead of going to the city, we bring the latest trends to you on Long Island,” she said.

A unique aspect of Emily Sky that will also be seen in Indie, is personal styling.

Greenfield trains the stylists, who then show customers how to create an outfit, make a look go from day to night or achieve multiple styles with just a few items.

“Young women come in and want to know what to wear for school, the workplace and how to make a nighttime outfit. We do one-on-one styling, put a whole outfit together for you and get you the most bang for your buck,” she said.

Idie will be Laura Greenfield’s third store. She and partner Kelly Sky, who has since passed away, opened Emily Sky in Plainview in 2009. The Commack location opened in 2008.
