Japanese Retailer Uniqlo Coming to Smith Haven Mall

Lake Grove location will be Uniqlo's first Long Island store.

Japanese clothing retailer Uniqlo plans to open its first Long Island store in the Smith Haven Mall this fall.

Uniqlo, a brand under Fast Retailing Co., sells high-quality, casual apparel in line with its ‘Made for All' philosophy designed to go beyond age, gender, occupation or ethnicity and all other ways that define people, according to its website.

The Lake Grove store will be one of 10 new stores Uniqlo is looking to open in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and California to expand its U.S. Market. The expansion will bring the company up to 17 stores across the nation with its U.S. online shopping site, which came online in October 2012.

Uniqlo plans to sell clothing for men, women and children at the Smith Haven Mall.

"Uniqlo is ready to take our next step in our U.S. expansion by opening more smaller format and mall stores in the regions surrounding our current flagships stores in the Tri-State and Northern California regions," said Larry Meyer, COO of Uniqlo's USA business and Fast Retailing Group Senior Vice President, in a statement.

Uniqlo currently has stores in three stores in New York City and two stores in upstate in Westchester's Ridge HIll and the Palisades Center.

"Our goal is to continue to build brand awareness for new potential customers, and greater loyalty from our fans, with more convenient access to our high quality clothing and exceptional customer service," Meyer said.

Uniqlo is currently accepting applications online to work at its Lake Grove store for a store supervisor and sale associate positions.

Other recent stores to open at the Smith Haven Mall area include Omaha Steaks and the nearby Long Island Miller's Ale House.
