LA Fitness Holding Grand Opening Saturday

Commack's newest gym will celebrate by offering free workouts, healthy food and tours.

LA Fitness will celebrate the grand opening of its Commack location this Saturday.

From 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., visitors can enjoy complimentary sports amenities, snacks, prizes and entertainment.

Get there early for a zumba class at 8:30 a.m. The gym will also be offering complimentary fitness assessments.

A ribbon cutting cereomny will take place at 10 a.m. and the BLI radio Street Team will be there from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. with a live DJ. Kids are invited to join the fun as well with face painting from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. 

LA Fitness opened its doors in Commack just in time for New Year resolutions on Dec. 15 within the King Kullen shopping center on Veteran's Memorial Highway.

The gym took over the vacant space that Borders left behind when the book store closed after filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2011. 

LA Fitnesss in Commack is approximately 25,000 square feet, according to manager John Bracken. It offers members the use of state-of-the-art equipment, free weights, group fitness classes including kickbox cardio and yoga. Other amenities will include a sauna and "kid's klub" (babysitting), according to Bracken.  

The company is expanding across the state. LA Fitness opened a Smithown location in October in the Branch Shopping Plaza on Main Street.

LA Fitness's new Commack location was one of four locations the national chain opened in New York between November and December of 2012. It is already in pre-sale of gym memberships for an upcoming Garden City location on Long Island, according to its website.
