LA Fitness Opens Its Doors in Commack

National gym franchise takes over former Borders' location in the King Kullen shopping center.

 

A new gym has opened for business in Commack just in time to catch residents looking to make good on their New Year's resolutions to lose weight and get in shape. 

LA Fitness opened its new Commack location on Dec. 15 in the King Kullen shopping center. The gym has taken over the space left vacant when Borders closed after filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the early spring of 2011.

The new LA Fitnesss in Commack is approximately 25,000 square feet, according to manager John Bracken. It offers members the use of state-of-the-art equipment, free weights, group fitness classes including kickbox cardio and yoga. Other amenities will include a sauna and kid's klub (babysitting), according to Bracken.  

It is a further expansion after LA Fitness opened its Smithtown Main Street location on Oct. 4, 2012 in the Branch Shopping Plaza.

LA Fitness's new Commack location was one of four locations the national chain opened in New York between November and December of 2012. It is already in pre-sale of gym memberships for an upcoming Garden City location on Long Island, according to its website.
