Restaurant developers are looking to bring the bold flavors of the west to Jericho Turnpike in Commack.
Darden Restaurants has filed an application with the Town of Huntington on July 17 to build a Longhorn Steakhouse at the site of the former deli at 6228 Jericho Turnpike in Commack.
Longhorn Steakhouse is a chain of casual steakhouses serving up steaks, including its signature Flo's Filet and Outlaw Ribeye, for lunch and dinner, according to the company's website. The first Longhorn Steakhouse opened in Atlanta, Ga. as LongHorn Steaks.
The proposed location at 6228 Jericho Turnpike is the former deli, whose property is now fenced off and guarded with barbed wired. Despite these safety measures, the building has been spray painted with graffiti and trash lays along the driveway.
Longhorn Steakhouse reports that its average restaurant is approximately 5,600 square feet, with a dining room and bar accommodating 204 guests. There are more than 370 LongHorn Steakhouse restaurants in 35 states across the nation.
If the plans are approved, this would be Longhorn Steakhouse's first Long Island location. The closest restaurant are in Shelton, Conn. and North Haven, Conn.
