5 Unusual Headlines in 2011

A look at some of the more unique stories that happened in Commack this year.

: The helped Dix Hills Firefighters and Suffolk County Police rescue a horse named Mikey that escaped from a nearby stable and fell into a neighbor's inground pool in January. Two firefighters were treated for hypothermia following the incident. The fiefighters and Mikey made full recoveries.

: A burning toaster in the faculty room of was the alleged cause of a school-wide evacuation in March. The students remained outside as firefighters inspected the building. After about 15 minutes, the fire chief deemed the building safe and the students returned to class.

: A single person managed to steal 20 pairs of jeans from on Veterans Memorial Highway in May, according to Suffolk County police.

: In other wacky police news, officers were reportedly looking for someone who shot soda through an open window into a 2002 Toyota at Burr-Winkle Park in June. Police did not disclose what type of soda was used.

It was an unhappy stay for at least one guest this year, who trashed the room they were staying in this past June. According to police, the individual pulled wires from the TV area, broke a mirror, removed faucet and tub handles in the bathroom, and pulled chains off of a door.
