Aly Raisman Named to Commack’s National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame

The Gold-winning Olympic gymnast will be honored this weekend at the Suffolk Y JCC.

Aly Raisman, who led the gold medal-winning U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team to victory at the 2012 Summer Olympics, will be one of nine athletes inducted into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, located at the Suffolk Y JCC in Commack.

Not only was the 18-year-old captain of the American team, but also won an individual gold medal for her floor routine and bronze medal for her balance beam performance. She is also the 2011 gymnastics World Champion and a three-time World medalist.

Another notable inductee includes David Berger, an Israeli weightlifter, who fell victim to terrorists during the 1972 Munich games.

Berger was one of 11 Israeli Olympians taken hostage and brutally killed by the Palestinian terrorist group, Black September on Sept. 5, 1972. The induction ceremony will take place April 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the Suffolk Y JCC (74 Hauppauge Road, Commack).
