A group of concerned Commack residents is looking to elected government officials to enforce trucking restrictions on Townline Road, with possibility of eliminating commercial traffic all together.
Commack Civic Association will be bringing a petition with more than 300 signatures before Huntington Town Board on Dec. 18 demanding the elected officials take responsibility for Townline Road in Commack and enact trucking restrictions to limit 18-wheeler commercial traffic.
Since 2010, the civic association members have expressed concerns about 18-wheeler cargo trucks barrelling along Townline Road - which passes in front of North Ridge Elementary School and Commack High School.

However, the Town of Huntington as owner of the southbound lanes until recently did not place similar limitations. The roadway was found to belong county by New York state courts in a recent lawsuit, but friendly negotiations as to the road's ownership, maintenance and care are underway.
Meanwhile, Commack residents are waiting for a resolution. Suffolk Leg. Steven Stern, D-Dix Hills, said the county will be building a new truck inspection station to help pull 18-wheel commercial trucks not meeting regulations off the roadway.
