I grew up directly across the street from the sump and went to Sagtikos the first year it opened back in 1965. My friends and I spent most winter afternoons in the sump. Ice skating and sleigh riding. Back then it was cold enough that there was always snow and ice through to March. In the spring, summer and fall it was always filled with various forms of waterfowl. Growing up in Commack in the sixties was great. I do miss those times. I live in Lyme, CT now. It is very much like Commack was when there were still mostly farms. I think that is why I like it here so much.
