Child Care Council of Suffolk Gets $11.5K Grant

Commack-based agency to fund Parent Leadership Initiative Program in Town of Islip.

The will spearhead a program to help parents develop leadership skills and become more active in their communities, thanks to a grant recently awarded to the agency by the Long Island Universalist Fund at the Long Island Community Foundation.

The Commack-based nonprofit will use the $11,500 grant to fund the Parent Leadership Initiative in the Town of Islip.

“We are honored to receive this LICF grant for our Islip PLI Program,” said Janet Walerstein, executive director, Child Care Council of Suffolk. “We particularly look forward to launching this program in Islip in 2012.”

The Parent Leadership Initiative is a program designed to prepare parents from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds to assume leadership roles in their communities. Child Care Council of Suffolk offers families assistance in finding local child care services as well as in-home care services.
