Commack Firefighters Train for Trench Rescues

Commack Fire Department members underwent extensive training on March 25.

Commack firefighters are pursuing further training to help improve their response to emergency situations in the community. 

members attended the ROCO Rescue's Trench Rescue Technician course this past weekend, March 24 and March 25. 

Trench Rescue training is an extensive 20-hour course that teaches firefighters how to identify types of trench collapses, soil classifications, hazard recognition, OSHA regulations, and extensive shoring techniques.

Commack firefighters face training rescues in difficult trench formations, according to the fire district's website, while under the supervision of ROCO Rescue supervisors. By the end of the weekend, firefighters were able to successfully use different methods of shoring up the ground, or stabilizing it, to safely rescue an individual in danger.
