Earl Barrels up the East Coast

The powerful category two storm continues its march.

Earl continues its relentless march up the East Coast, maintining its status as a Category 2 hurricane. As of 8 am Earl had wins of 105 MPH and was moving to the NNE at 18 MPH. Commack should begin feeling the gusty winds  and rain bans by early afternoon.

At this point residents should be finished with most of their storm preparations.  With wind gusts of up to 50 MPH expected to effect Commack, all loose debris should be tied down and garbage pails moved to the backyards. Luckily, the storm is expected to move quickly, so flooding should be confined to areas that have poor drainage and the weather should begin clearing up by tonight, although expect 20-30 MPH winds through the overnight.

Currently, the cloud cover overhead and occassional shower is the result of the hurricane. Despite the fact that the eye will be passing well to Commack's east, the large size of the storm and its large wind radii will bring the damaging weather to our town. The storm is expected to be worse and worse the further East on Long Island you go.
