UPDATE: Ice Storm Causes More Delays, Power Outages

Commack Library opening late, LIRR reduces service to weekend schedule.

Update: All after-school and evening activities in the Commack school district have been canceled, with the exception of the SCOPE program and athletic team practices, which will run as scheduled.

According to Long Island Power Authority's website, all local power outages have been restored as of 2:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Commack school district delayed classes by two hours Wednesday as the ice storm made for hazardous driving conditions.

The canceled all morning classes, and will delay opening until 1 p.m.

The is operating on a weekend schedule as the freezing rain and sleet created problems on the tracks. Peak fares are in effect, however. Station waiting rooms will remain open round-the-clock through normal hours on Thursday.

The National Weather Service continued to warn of extremely hazardous driving conditions and said that moderate freezing rain mixed with sleet will continue to make travel dangerous.

The Long Island Power Authority was reporting outages around the area, including about 90 customers in Commack. According to LIPA, power is expected to be restored in these areas between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
