An investigation by Brookhaven Town Fire Marshals and Suffolk County Arson Squad has determined that Saturday's fire at the former Lawrence Aviation site was criminal in nature. No other details were immediately made available, as the investigation remains ongoing. "I wouldn't go what into caused the fire," said Sgt. George White. "Only two people know that: us, and the person who lit it."

Cops: South Setauket Man Robbed 4 Stores

Suffolk County police have arrested a South Setauket man and a Deer Park woman whom they say were responsible for a series of jewelry store thefts in Suffolk over the past month.

Daniel Cimolonski, 32, was charged with four counts of third-degree grand larceny, a felony; fourth-degree grand Larceny, a felony; and criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors. His girlfriend, Kristie Laird, 45, was charged as an accomplice in one of the robberies.

Mall Gets Tax Abatement on Expansion

Walt Whitman Shops will get a 10-year tax abatement on its expansion.

Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency CEO Anthony Manetta said the abatement starts at 50 percent and decreases over the 10-year period until the full rate applies. He said the abatement will save Simon $1.2 million over the term.
