POLL: Do You Feel Commack Schools are Safe and Secure?

Do you feel confident your child is safe going to/from school, or do you wish additional measures were being taken.

The question of safety and security in Commack School District seems to be a question that's popping up.

Commack residents learned via the district's website and Patch that on Bluegrass Lane on May 4. The driver of the vehicle called out "I have something for you" to a 10-year-old girl and her two friends, according to police reports. Fortunately, the three girls headed inside to notify an adult who then called Suffolk County Police.

However, Commack residents raised the question with Thursday night, "Do you believe security is sufficiently staffed?"

Both incumbent Deborah Guber and Daniel Fusco answered that they believe the Commack school district's security forces are adequate staffed and provided further information that the district is in the process of installing numerous security cameras to further enhance its forces.

But we thought we'd bring the question to you, are you concerned about Commack school district's security is up to snuff? Are the school buildings safe and secure?

We'd love for you to tell us how much (if at all) you are concerned about this issue.

Inside the schools is where most of your problems occur, Bullying in the Middle Schools and Drug Use in the High School are rampant , but that is not mentioned amongst our so call 'Board'. That is where we need better supervision for our kids,

Hi Mike. Bullying is always a serious issue. The best way to prevent bullying is to raise awareness. The "Bully" movie that has been relesed took this issue head on and is now playing in Coram. http://www.commonsensemedia.org/movie-reviews/bully

I forgot to mention that if this is happening to you (if you are a student reading this blog) or your kids, you should definitely report it.

The problem is that a lot of kids do not report it because they are afraid it will only get worse.
