Long Island Power Authority has made significant gains in restoring power to Commack.
LIPA reports that 13,571 in Commack are still without power after Hurricane Sandy as of 8 a.m. Wednesday, down from 23,718 at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday. The utility company has restored approximately 43 percent of the outages in the Commack area.
LIPA is still assessing the damage to its grid, which was widespread across Long Island. The power authority lists 51,474 out in the Town of Smithtown and 76,668 out in the Town of Huntington.
The outages in Suffolk County have dropped slightly to 412,290 as of 8 a.m. There were 460,419 outages for the 6 p.m. Tuesday.
