Powerball Jackpot Tops $300 Million

Saturday's drawing could put a local resident in the money.

What would you do with $320 million? That's the question Commack residents are asking themselves as they, along with the rest of New York, line up for Powerball tickets.

As more tickets are sold, the jackpot increases. As of Friday morning, a winning ticket would have a cash payout of $198.3 million, according to powerball.com.

A Commack woman won $1 million last month playing the New York Lottery. Maria Matthews Sanders was one of nine winners who shared $13 million, according the Lottery officials.

Sanders purchased the winning ticket at Stop & Shop in East Northport on Jan. 20. According to Newsday, she decided to purchase the ticket while waiting in line at the deli counter. Sanders was in shock when she discovered she had won. She told the paper that she couldn’t get to the lottery’s customer service center in Garden City for two days so she hid the ticket under her mattress and had two restless nights
