Week in Review: Community Says Goodbye to Student Killed in Fire

A busload of Marist College students and family members gathered at St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church in Dix Hills Friday to say goodbye to Kerry Fitzsimons, the 21-year-old Commack resident Saturday.

The suspect, who police say is responsible for a , is described as a white male with an olive complexion, approximately 40 to 50 years old and clean shaven.

Three Commack residents were among the 41 Town of Smithtown residents arrested in a long-term heroin bust announced last week by Queens County District Attorney. The three arrested ranged in age from 20 to 22.

Savina Kim, 17, received a phone call Tuesday night telling her she is one of the 40 semifinalists selected to move on in the national competition.

A third person within the Commack School District has been diagnosed with Pertussis, also known as whooping cough, Superintendent Donald James confirmed Monday in a statement on the district website.
