Week in Review: Home Break-Ins, Proposed Hess Station Causes Stir

Residents are speaking out about a rash of local buglaries after Suffolk County police confirmed that six homes have been broken into, one while the homeowner was in the house, since New Year's Eve.

For a second time, the Hess company is seeking a zoning change that would allow for a gas station with a convenience store at the corner of a five-way intersection on Jericho Turnpike, and the idea is being met with opposition amid traffic and safety concerns.

Members of the Commack Fire Department battled frigid temperatures to extinguish a fire that broke out in the old Deutsch Relays facilitiy on Daly Road. No injuries were reported.

Commack students Lee Austin, 17, Rebecca Alford, 17 and Savina Kim, 17, are among 300 students chosen from a pool of 1,839 young minds competing in the The Intel Science Talent Search.

Big Blue punter will greet fans and watch the Giants play the Packers at on Sunday.
