Lowe's Submits Revised Plans for Smaller Store
Lowe's is taking the next step forward in converting the former Commack Cinemas into a massive home improvement center.
Lowe's submitted revised building plans for a 166,000-square-foot home improvement store and garden center to Smithtown Planning Department on Oct. 18. It will come up for a public hearing before the Planning Board on Nov. 7 and could be approved the same night.
No Power Plant for Kings Park
The Long Island Power Authority announced Wednesday afternoon that it will recommend two locations to its board of trustees as possible future sites for a new power plant.
The two sites being considered are in Yaphank and Shoreham, but the proposed site in Kings Park is no longer under consideration. LIPA Board Trustees will be asked to vote on moving forward with conducting negotiations for 20-year Purchase Power Agreements with both companies as it determines which one will offer the best value to Long Island customers.
Commack's Most Dangerous Cut Throughs?
Some residential streets can feel like busy highways if they're frequently used as cut-throughs, and can pose a danger to unsuspecting pedestrians. In Commack, we're heard talk that Hauppauge Road and Daly Road are used when Jericho Turnpike backs up, but we're sure there's many others used to bypass the busy roadway.
The town board held its public hearing for the proposed 2013 town budget Thursday night with locals and politicians voicing their displeasure with the property tax increase.
Worked into the $103 million proposed budget is a property tax increase that would run homeowners $46.83 a year if the home has an assessed value of $5,500.
Hurricane Sandy: Another Perfect Storm?
Despite Internet buzz that Hurricane Sandy could equal another Perfect Storm, experts say it's too soon to tell if the weather tracking toward Long Island will be as devastating as that deadly 1991 event.
According to David Stark, meteorologist for the National Weather Service office at Upton, experts are now "confident that Long Island will see some impacts from Sandy."
