Week in Review: Teen Fatally Struck on Long Island Expressway

A teenage driver who had run out of gas was killed Saturday night after being struck while crossing the entrance ramp of the Long Island Expressway in Commack, police said.

 A Commack woman was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated March 2 after she drove around a road closure and into an accident scene on the Southern State Parkway, police said.

Matthew Bounaparte, 41, was pulled over near the Sunken Meadow Parkway at approximately 4:30 p.m. for not wearing a seatbelt, according to New York State police.

While talking to Bounaparte, the trooper noticed he had slurred speech and smelled marijauna coming from his car, police said. When asked to exit his car for a sobriety test, police said Bounaparte lunged at the trooper and put up a struggle, reportedly spitting and screaming at the trooper.

A St. James man was arrested Monday on DWI charges while driving on Northern State Parkway in Commack, according to New York State Police.

According to police, Matthew O'Reilly, 46, of St. James, was stopped driving eastbound on the roadway near Sunken Meadow Parkway in a brown Buick at 8:35 p.m. Police said O'Reilly failed sobriety tests and produced a breath sample of .19 percent BAC.
