Winter Weather Advisory in Effect for Commack

National Weather Service forecasting 2 to 4 inches of snow Monday.

Old Man Winter will not give up on the 2012-13 winter season – at least one more storm is still ahead for Commack.

According to Tim Morrin, meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Upton, a winter weather advisory is in effect for all of Long Island, including western Suffolk, on Monday from 6 a.m until midnight.

The storm, approaching the East Coast from the west, has been dropping snow across the Midwest throughout Sunday, with some of those areas seeing about a foot of snow. Long Island will not see that kind of intense snowfall, but meteorologists are forecasting an accumulation of two to three inches, with some isolated spots seeing up to four inches.

Of most concern for drivers, Morrin said, is reduced visibility while the snow is falling; roadways are expected to be wet but no major problems are anticipated. Motorists are urged to use caution during the evening commute.

Temperatures are slated to remain above freezing for most of Monday, in the mid 30s, but could "flirt with the freezing mark" during the overnight hours Monday, Morrin said.

Winds are expected to be blustery, but not damaging during the storm at 15 to 25 mph and gusts to 35 mph possible.
