Smithtown Artist
Dan McCarthy

Featured at Apple Bank Exhibition through
February 28, 2014

Smithtown Township Arts Council is pleased to
announce that the works of artist Dan McCarthy will be on view at Apple Bank,
91 Route 111, Smithtown, Through February 28. The exhibition, part of STAC’s
Outreach Program, can be viewed during regular banking hours.

Dan McCarthy is a 28-year-old wildlife artist from
Long Island specializing in big game. He has always had a deep appreciation for
the natural world, and when he began painting only a few years ago, animals
were the logical choices as subjects. Self-taught, Dan has no formal training.
He has loved to draw since he was old enough to be trusted with a pencil and
spent much of his childhood creating superheroes and villains. A few years ago,
he decided to try painting. He has a BA in history, and figured it would be
“cool” to paint portraits of famous revolutionaries. Next, he tried painting a
tiger, which unearthed his latent passion for wildlife. He has not painted any
other subject since.

          Dan
grew up in Smithtown and currently lives in Selden with his wife and
aggressively tempered Chihuahua Pancho.

STAC is grateful to Apple Bank for its continued
support of culture in our communities.
