Help a cancer survivor today!
Strength for Life is a local grassroot non profit that provides FREE exercise classes and wellness retreats to cancer patients/survivors on Long Island.
We hold our classes at a variety of locations on LI to make it as accessible as possible for survivors to be compliant to the program. In Suffolk we have classes at Mather Hospital, Stony Brook Cancer Center, Bay Shore..pending Huntington Hospital; In Nassau we have classes in East Meadow at STARS Rehabilitation, in Lake Success and Seaford; additional locations always considered with a minimum of 4 interested patient/survivors.
Since 2010 when the ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) revised their guidelines for "avoid inactivity" there are more and more studies on the benefits of adding exercise to your treatment plan. The treatment related fatigue side effect of chemotherapy and nausea are the two of the constant complaints of patients...exercise can help that! So many other benefits will be yours by starting an exercise program...In the words on Nike - "just do it"
If you are on FaceBook - like our page for a plethora of shared articles on exercise, nutrition and complementary therapies.
Strength for Life relies on our fundraising effortts to offer these classes, equipment and wellness retreats to cancer patients/survivors at no cost, please consider supporting us in one of these ways.
