Commack Local Launches Fundraiser to Provide Music Therapy in Jamaica

The service project is said to benefit those in infirmaries, special needs schools and homeless shelters.

A Commack woman has launched a fundrasing campaign on GoFundMe.com to bring music therapy to those in infirmaries, special need schools and homeless shelters in Jamaica.

According to her campaign, Nathina Inez was selected to participate in the Jamaica Field Service Project, a service learning program accredited by the State University of New York, which is open to university students from participating universities from across the US and Canada.

She said that the JAFSP brings school supplies, tutors, musical instruments and instruction to the schools of Jamaica five times yearly, with the support of the Rotary, Peace Corp, and the Claudia Williams HIV Education Center of Jamaica. Trips also include music-therapy and community health students who do volunteer work in the area care centers, all under the supervision of our accredited supervisors and professors.

In June, she will be traveling to the parish of Westmoreland where she will be providing music therapy through Afro-Caribbean drumming techniques to those in the most vulnerable situations including infirmaries, special need schools and homeless shelters.

A goal of raising $2,800 has been set.
