Commack Author, Showtime Producer to Talk "Masters of Sex"

Author Thomas Maier will speak at Book Revue tonight about his book, which was turned into a Showtime series.

Tonight at Book Revue in Huntington, Commack resident and author Thomas Maier will reveal clips from Showtime’s series, “Masters of Sex,” the channel’s hit new show based on his biography of researchers William Masters and Virginia Johnson.

The award-winning writer will discuss his book on the famous sex researchers and how the pilot for the drama series was filmed on Long Island. Maier also serves as a producer of the Showtime series by Sony Pictures Television.

Maier, whose family has lived in Commack for the past half century, has worked for the past 30 years as an award-winning investigative reporter for Newsday and also recently with News 12 Long Island.

A new edition of "Masters of Sex" -- featuring a cover with actors Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan who play Masters and Johnson -- was recently published by Basic Books.

At 6 p.m. tonight at Book Revue (313 New York Ave., Huntington), Maier will show clips from the new series, which this week won two nominations for best drama from the Writers Guild of America.

Maier lives in the Commack school district with his wife Joyce. Their three sons, Andrew, Taylor and Reade, all graduated from Commack High School. Maier is the author of four books, including previous biographies of Dr. Benjamin Spock, media magnate S.I. Newhouse Jr. and the Kennedy family.
