Suffolk to Spray Sunken Meadow for Mosquitoes Wednesday

County health officials say human exposure is unlikely to occur.

A low-flying helicopter will sweep across the saltwater marshes of Sunken Meadow State Park to spray for mosquitoes on Wednesday.

Suffolk County Department of Health' Division of Vector Control will be spraying the pesticide Altosid liquid concentrate (methoprene) to help keep control the mosquito larva some time between 5 a.m to 8 p..m. Wednesday.

The pesticide being used by Vector Control is approved by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

Residents are told there is no need to take any precautions as the helicopter will be low flying and measures are being taken to prevent the spray from drifting into other areas.  Human exposure is unlikely, according to the Department of Health.
