Local Churches Welcome International 'Peace Light'

With help of International Scout Movement, live flame from Bethelehem makes its way to Commack.

Last weekend, and the , with the help of local and international Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, welcomed a "peace light" - a live flame that was fetched from Bethlehem - to ring a season of peace and tranquility for people of all religions and ethnic backgrounds.

On an annual basis, the flame makes its way from Bethelehem to Vienna, Austria under the watch of the International Scouting Movement, and from there is distributed throughout Europe. With the help of Austrian Airlines and the Brooklyn Catholic Committee on Scouting and the Greater New York Council, this year the flame is making its way across the Atlantic Ocean and will grace North and South America.

Roughly 300 Long Islanders filled Christ the King Church last Sunday and after many individuals received the peace light, several brought it back to their own House of Worship to share the message.
