Lace up your sneakers this Saturday, it's time take a scenic run through the Commack community for charity.
Commack Volunteer Ambulance is hosting its first 5K walk/run Saturday at the John Mandracchia-Sawmill Intermediate School to raise funds to benefit those volunteers who dedicate their time to serving local residents.
Day of Registration will start up at 7:45 a.m. and run through 8:45 a.m. Cost to register is $25. The events will kick off with a children's fun run at 8:45 a.m. The times 5K walk/run will start promptly at 9 a.m.
Runners will start at Sawmill Intermediate School heading east on New Highway, then turn left (north) on Wicks Road and left again (west) on Sioux Drive. Heading deeper into the Commack community, runners will take a right (north) onto Iroquois Lane, a left on Pawnee Drive then a right on Seneca drive. Runners will cross north on Wicks Path, to make right on Quail Place before making another left on Raven Drive. The pack will head make a right (east) on Ronde Drive before heading right on Pinecone Drive, followed by another right on Gannet Drive. For a third time, the races turns left on Wicks Path before heading right on Sioux Drive, then left on Mohegan drive before the homestretch on New Highway.
Emergency service workers, police and firefighters are invited to bring their identification on the day of the race and will receive a discounted registration fee.
For the safety of all participants, strollers, baby joggers, roller skates/blades, bicycles and pets are not permitted on the race course.
Finish Line Road Race Technicians will be keeping official time. Awards will be given out to the the top three male and female finishers in the following divisions: 13-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75+. There will also be a special division for EMS workers, firefighters and police.
