PTA is Mistaken about Prop 2

PTA's reasoning for opposing Prop 2 is based upon a mistaken belief that a special election to vote in add'l trustees could be held at another time so as not to fall in the summer. At the PTA meetings we discussed concerns about Prop 2 passing and forcing a special election to be held in the summer - so less people would be around to vote. But after last night's meet the candidates night, I learned that there is no way to avoid that because the law requires it. In other words, we would never have a time when we could add new trustees during the regular time of year when school elections are held because the law says that such a proposition must be voted on only during election time in May. If it passes, then the special election has to be held within 60 days afterwards. So, there could never be a time where we could vote to add new seats to the board that would not result in a summer time election. This was confirmed to me this morning by a lawyer friend of mine. In view of this I think the PTA should reconsider their position on Prop 2.
