Question of the Day: Are Budget Hearings Useful?

Do Commack residents think budget work sessions are worth attending?

During the past two months, the Commack School District as held close to a dozen public budget meetings. Now that the budget and it's almost time to vote, many Commack residents have attended at least one budget work session.

For Thursday's "Question of the Day," a new feature you will see on this site daily, we're asking you, the taxpayers, to weigh in on the budget hearing process.

They are worth attending as long as you dont expect to effect change. All you get is information. Remember, 75% to 80% of the total budget, which consists of salaries and benefits, are etched in stone before you walk in the door and are immune to revision.
