Question of the Day: What's the Busiest Intersection in Commack?

You sit in traffic every day, waiting for the light to change. Are there certain intersections in Commack you avoid?

Today's Question of the Day is something every Commack resident can relate to: Traffic.

With all the storefront strips, supermarkets and shopping centers, Commack roads can get a little, how do we say this—crowded.

So tell us: What is the busiest intersection in Commack? Are there certain roads or intersections you try to avoid?

yes, the intersection of Jericho Turnpike and Larkfield Road, going east or west, the left turn lan going east is very slow, and the line waiting to make the turn is very long, only 3 or 4 cars get by at a time. On the side going west there is a red-light camera which is rigged to catch many cars who can't make the crossing without getting ticketed, or stopping short and getting rear-ended. Why are these cameras set so that it is impossible to go through when the light is still green but turns yellow to red in 2 seconds. Many people including myself cut through the Home Depot Parking lot to avoid this red-light camera!

Jericho and Indianhead Road. Trucks all the time going and coming from the muni facilities. The trucks do a terrible about of damage to the intersections, especially when it is hot. Nothing like driving through the ruts they make.

Since the red light cameras have been, all intersections have gooten more coongested. We better timing on them. Waiting for a left turn light for over two min utes at midnight serves no purpose

Those cameras at the intersections are slowing traffic to the point of 24/7 traffic jams. All this so our town can add fines to their income. The best advice I can offer is LEAVE THIS ISLAND before they tax your taxes

Lemme see if I understand, Roy... You're blaming red light cameras for traffic jams. Apparently squeezing amber lights and running the red ones will alleviate this congestion. It's called 'obeying the law'. However, your point is noted.

Jericho and Commack Rd the left turning lane onto Jericho is way to short and you can never get through it. The cameras are a great idea and I believe in them but you have to make adjustments to the timing of the lights then because they are way off. Also the same intersection heading east on Jericho the right turning lane should be just that a turning lane. When heading south from townline the have two lanes for the left turn and also heading west on jericho the turning lanes on to Commack rd have two lanes what about the two ther directions they only have one turning lane each and this causes a tremendous back up.

Jericho and ANYTHING merging into or off of jericho is very hectic especially on the weekends!

I can rarely make a left turn off my block (Hubbell St) onto Townline Rd without a lengthy wait. There are so many cars and trucks. This corner has long needed a traffic light, and now with the newly remodeled Sunshine Acres Park, I fear for the increased number of children, and their safety. This corner has seen a number of accidents.

Hubbell and Townline has always been a pain. People come up the hill on Townline at Nascar speeds. It needed a light 20 years ago. Time to call Frank Petrone.
