What Do You Want to See Replace Grill 454?

Tell us what business you would like to see take over the vacant space in the King Kullen shopping center.

Shortly after Grill 454's closing on New Year's Day, Commack residents have started talking about the different businesses they'd love to see take over this vacant restaurant.

Grill 454 owners announced the upscale steakhouse would be closing through its Facebook page on Dec. 26, just days before its final New Year's Eve party featuring Poparazzi.

The restaurant was open for slightly more than a year, December 2011 - Jan. 1, 2013, after taking over the former Charlie Brown Steakhouse after it filed for bankruptcy in November 2010.

It's closure leaves behind an undesirable hole in the Commack, another large vacant building marring the local landscape.

Patch readers have already started offering their suggestions for what eateries they would like to see take over. Suggestions have ranged from Miller's Ale House to more family-oriented dining.

" I think a Miller's Ale House or Buffalo Wild Wings type place would be perfect here. A place families could bring kids or groups of friends could go hang out, watch sports and have some good wings/beers etc. This area is sorely lacking in that type of spot," writes Laura Perocier.

Yet Miller's Ale House has plans to knock down the former Houlihan's near Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove for its next location.

So we ask you: What would you like to see replace Grill 454? Would you want to see another steakhouse or would you like to see change?

Tell us in the comments below.

Olive Garden is an insult to NY Italian restaurants. You can get better Italian food at almost any pizza parlor. Same thing goes for P.F. Changs. Better Chinese at any of our mom and pop owned Chinese restaurants. What about a Mexican restaurant?

Are there any on Long Island? Would be awesome in Commack!!
Sharon Lynn January 07, 2013 at 03:25 AM
No Lin, none on Long Island! I don't even think there are any in NY!
Gigi January 07, 2013 at 05:07 PM
Don't we have enough Italian restaurants in Commack? Each and every one of them is better than Olive Garden.

Smokin Al's would be awesome. There are other barbecue places but there is no competition. Make it bigger than the 2 on the south shore. maybe a place to watch games or have an acoustic guitar player. something different that does not exist for miles.

Wilt Chamberlain used to own a restaurant in Boca Raton (it is now closed) that would work great in that space. It was a sports bar with really good food (and plenty of healthy options) and they also had an arcade area for antsy kids who didn't want to sit and watch their grandparents eat slowly. They earned tickets playing the games that could be traded in for prizes.

Went to Cracker Barrel down in Florida. It belongs in the south, not LI!. Low brow crowd. Grits? No one eats that garbage here. Disgusting. The menu was confusing. I wanted a simple omelet, yet they are no even on the menu. Instead, the menu is filled with combos that all look the same. You need a law degree to figure it out

J & R Steakhouse's in Stonybrook was damaged by Hurricane Sandy and has not reopened. This would be a perfect spot for them..
commack resident January 11, 2013 at 04:53 PM
Red Lobster, Cracker Barrel, or Steak and Brew :-)

Cracker Barrel would be fantastic! What an idea!

OG is just awful. We live in NY, not Ohio.
Player01 January 17, 2013 at 01:43 AM
Don't think you'll ever see one on LI. They are always near interstates.
IMHO January 17, 2013 at 05:08 PM
You hate OG, but love Red Lobster...??? Thats tough to explain. Denny's would be good, and would stay busy.. We dont need another $125/couple place to piss away $$ Someplace to go for Breakfast, Lunch, late night snack BESIDES an overpriced diner
Gigi January 19, 2013 at 05:27 AM
Wish Maureen's Kitchen would move to Commack and stay open for dinner.

Lorraine February 11, 2013 at 11:01 PM
An Olive Garden or Red Lobster would be great!
Joe March 06, 2013 at 03:19 PM
Miller Ale House is coming to this location by the end of the year. Can't wait for their good food and drinks at reasonable prices.
Wendy June 16, 2013 at 01:03 PM
What IS coming here to replace this restaurant..it's been a while havent seen anything come along yet
IMHO June 16, 2013 at 11:20 PM
Millers Ale house will be tearing down the old Charlie Browns and rebuild a slightly smaller restaurant... they've posted a sign along Vets highway.. I think it had a timeframe, but i'm not sure
