Accident Closes 1 Lane on LIE

Lane closure added to rush hour traffic Friday evening.

An accident involving a tractor-trailer and a sedan closed one lane on the Westbound side of the Long Island Expressway near Commack Road at around 4:00 p.m. Friday. 

It is not yet clear how many people were involved or injured in the crash, but one victim was observed on a stretcher at the scene.

The left lane on the LIE going West between exits 51 and 52 remained blocked off at 5 p.m., adding to the rush hour traffic.  Firefighters and EMS trucks could be seen removing debris from the site.

Calls to the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office and the Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps were not immediately returned Friday evening.
