A car accident involving a utility pole shut down a portion of Veterans Memorial Highway in Commack Thursday evening.
Just after 5:30 p.m., a vehicle struck a utility pole near the intersection of Veterans Memorial Highway and Tern Place. The pole snapped in half, causing live wires to touch down.
As of 8 p.m., the stretch of road was still blocked off to traffic and it appeared emergency crews were working to clear downed wires.
