Car Crashes into Lucille Roberts

Though nobody was injured, eyewitnesses say the older woman who was driving the car seemed to freeze on the accelerator.

A car crashed into the window of Lucille Roberts at 8:20 a.m. on Thursday. The manager, who did not wish to be identified, said no one was injured and the driver was taken to Saint Catherine's of Siena hospital in Smithtown. The gym is open for classes only for Thursday.

Christine Gerisma, a gym member, saw the incident as she arrived at the gym.

"The woman was pulling into the handicap spot and it seems that she froze on the accelerator. She hit the handicap sign and ran into the window," Gerisma said.

The gym opens at 8 a.m. so it was relatively empty at the time of the accident.

"She was an older woman and probably on her way to the yoga class," an assistant at the gym, who did not wish to be identified, said.
