Commack Man Charged in Alleged Cigarette Trafficking Scheme

William Helton faces federal charges for his alleged involvement in a multi-million dollar trafficking operation.

A Commack man has been charged with conspiracy to traffic contraband cigarettes in federal court, according to a report on Live5news.com

William Helton, 41, was charged in a 23 count indictment with conpsiracy to traffic contraband cigarettes and money laundering along with Nathaniel Elmore, 48, and Charley Antonio David Jr., 41, both of South Carolina.

According to the report, prosecutors allege the men were involved in a scheme to purchase millions of dollars in cigarettes in South Carolina and then resell them in other states without paying applicable taxes.
