Commack Driver Fatally Strikes Pedestrian in Huntington Station

Early morning accident on Jericho Turnpike kills 45-year-old William Prucha.

A pedestrian died early Thursday morning after being struck by a driver in Huntington Station.

According to Suffolk County police, Lewis Weill, of Commack, was driving a 2005 Saab westbound in the right lane of Jericho Turnpike, east of Evergreen Avenue, in Huntington Station when his vehicle struck a pedestrian at approximately 4:45 a.m.

The pedestrian, identified as 45-year-old William Prucha, of South Huntington, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said.

Weill, 64, was not injured, police said.

The investigation is ongoing. Detectives are asking anyone who may have information on the crash to contact the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
