Commack Fire Department to Host Blood Drive in Honor of Fallen Officer

Blood drive in memory of Suffolk County Police Officer Glen Ciano, who was killed in the line of duty.

The will hold its on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in memory of Suffolk County Police Officer Glen Ciano.

This will be the second year the blood drive honors Ciano, a 22-year veteran and father of two who on Feb. 22, 2009 when a drunk driver caused him to crash his patrol car into a utility pole on Commack Road.

The blood collected during the drive will help patients at local hospitals and clinics. The drive will take place at located at 6309 Jericho Tpke.

, as the fire deparment and Long Island Blood Services doubled their goal, collecting more than 60 pints of blood.

Members of the Commack Fire Department encourage all members of the community to come to the event and donate blood in memory of Ciano, who was himself a dedicated community volunteer.
