Commack Man Killed By LIRR Train

Commack man was struck near Deer Park train station early Friday morning.

A Commack man was struck and killed on the Long Island Rail Road tracks early Friday morning, according to a LIRR spokesman. 

Long Island Rail Road officials reported Gary McCue, 42, of Commack, was hit by a westbound train approximately 600 feet east of Carll's Straight Path, near the Deer Park train station at approximately 8 a.m. Friday. 

McCue was struck by a commuter train heading toward Penn Station that left Ronkonkoma at 7:31 a.m. He was killed immediately on impact, according to LIRR spokesman Sal Arena.

Arena was not able to provide any reason or explaination as to why McCue might have been on the tracks. 

LIRR serivces on the Ronkonkoma branch was suspended in both directions until approximately 10 a.m.
