Commack Man Rescued After Getting Lost in State Park

Hikers were lost for three hours in Chittenango Falls State Park, according to Utica Observer-Dispatch.

A Commack man was among a pair of hikers rescued in Chittenango Falls State Park on Saturday evening after being lost for several hours, reports the Utica Observer-Dispatch.

Brian Abramowitz, 22, and Jenna Goldberg, of Jericho, also 22, called 911 just before 6 p.m. Saturday after spending three hours trying to find their way out of the park in upstate New York, Madison County Undersheriff John Ball said in a statement.

With 911 dispatchers in contact with the hikers via cell phone, deputies drove their vehicles in the area with emergency lights on until the hikers were able to see them, Ball said.

The hikers, were on the side of a steep hill separated from rescuers by Chittenango Creek. An aerial ladder from the Chittenango Fire Department was extended over the creek, and rope rescue personnel crossed to the other side to help guide Abramowitz and Goldberg to safety.

The hikers were evaluated at the scene but refused further medical treatment, according to the Observer-Dispatch.
