Update: Commack Woman Killed in Route 454 Crash

Roseann Zarra, 67, suffered head and neck injuries in the collision Thursday evening.

Update: Commack resident Roseann Zarra, 67, was pronounced dead at Stony Brook University Medical Center late Thursday evening, police said.

A woman was seriously injured in a vehicle crash on Veterans Memorial Highway in Commack Thursday evening.

According to Suffolk County police, Roseann Zarra, 67, was making a left turn from the westbound lane of Veterans Highway onto Tern Place, when her vehicle was struck by a 2011 Ford Mustang being driven eastbound on Veterans Highway by Raymond Orofino at 5:30 p.m.

Zarra, of Commack, was transported via helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center for head and neck injuries. She was admitted in serious condition, police said. Orofino, 55, was taken to Huntington Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A portion of Veterans Highway near Tern Place remained into the evening as emergency workers appeared to clear downed wires.
